"Can you believe it?" (Week 2)

Schon mal 428 Halbmonde in 12 Tagen erlebt?

"Bikram Yoga Vacation" (Week 1)

Out of the Bullpen, into the Hotroom!

After 2 years of more or less constant practice, my yoga journey takes on another chapter. I'm about to take part in the 37th Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in Los Angeles, California. The previous days in L.A. were always spent with something purposeful, like shopping, sightseeing, meeting other trainees, or getting organized in one way or the other. Yesterday, I didn't do much at all, except waiting for the training to start! It feels like it's been ages since i've been in a hotroom, i've done my fair share of sightseeing, i'm over the jetlag now... so i'm ready to go! We had our orientation yesterday, with Jim Kallet (owner of the Bikram Yoga Old Town Studio in San Diego, and a veteran on the scene) introducing most of the staff we'll be spending our time with for the next 9 weeks (except for Bikram himself, who will appear today). It was pretty inspiring and made me even more eager to start. It seems like the entire Bikram Yoga Staff is very proud &a

First Impressions of L.A.

An airport hotel obviously isn't the best starting point to describe the vibe of a city, since they look pretty much the same everywhere. And i must say i was rather underwhelmed when i checked into room 1059 of the Radisson LAX Airport on the corner of Century & Sepulveda Boulevard in LA. But after a 12-hour-flight, and another 1.5 hours spent in customs, immigration & baggage claim, it's quite comforting to know that your hotel is only a few minutes away. Of course you don't expect great views of an airport hotel room, and it's probably a good thing that the windows can't be opened, otherwise people might as well just jump out of them - and I sure had the blues when I arrived. Seemingly the first trainee at the hotel (I later found out two Swedish girls had been arriving the day before), I couldn't help but feeling lonely. Yes, the Radisson is probably a 4* facility, but it looks like it has seen better days. It's obviously been built in the 1980&#

They call Los Angeles the "City of Angels". I didn't find it to be that exactly, but there are some nice folks there. 'Course I can't say I seen London, and I never been to France. And I ain't never seen no queen in her damned undies, as the fella says. But I tell you what: after seeing Los Angeles, and this here story I'm about to unfold, I guess I've seen something every bit as stupifying as you'd see in any of those other places (and in English, too!) so I can die with a smile on my face without feeling like the good lord gypped me.

The Endless Summer Vol II, track-by-track

Fellow blogger Kendall Wondergem (a.k.a. „The Grateful Yogini“) tried to characterize herself in terms of musical genres a while ago. While i haven’t really figured out how to describe myself that way, the following tracklist might just be my answer. For a few years now, I’ve been giving away self-compiled samler CD’s each Christmas, usually to people who had a significant impact on my life during that year, and filled with songs that bring back some good memories. This year, i've been taking my sampler on the road and given it to people who helped me on my epic American adventure - fellow yogis from Bikram Yoga Teacher Training, old American friends i reconnected with, and couchsurfing hosts who provided me with much more than just a place to crash. Fitting the occasion of a 6-month-sabbatical in the US, this year's sampler has become my longest so far, filled with 33 songs and 2 hours of music by (almost exclusively) American bands. For all those who have received or will rec
